5 – Movie Matinee Lunch.  Movie directed by Stephen Spielberg, starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field.  A two time Academy Award Winner,  this inspiring drama focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final four months in office as this visionary leader pursues a course of action to end the Civil War, unite the country and abolish slavery.  Bring your lunch.  12:00 to 2:30 p.m.   Rm 154

 10 – Music Appreciation with Walter Ladden:  The music of  Spanish, Mexican and Brazilian classical composers.  10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.   Rm 226

 11 – Ruth E. Cohan Jewish Book Review Series: Jabotinsky:  A Life, by Hillel Halkin.  This biography undertakes to answer central questions about Jabotinsky as a writer, a political thinker, and a leader. Few figures in twentieth-century Jewish life were quite so admired and loathed, and Halkin’s splendid, subtle book explores him with empathy and lucidity.  2:00 to 3:00 p.m.  Rm 154

 12 – Cultural Gems:  “Love in Any Language:  Amour, Amore, Amor…”Jazz Duo Sonny and Perley delight us with a performance of songs in some of the world’s most beautiful languages.  They will share their love of culture by giving us the background and translation of many of the favorites that we have heard for years Programs in the Cultural Gems series are free to the Friends of the North Regional/BC Library members and  Broward College students.  Fee for non-members is $5.  Join the Friends or renew membership for $10 and attend February and March Cultural Gems for free.  Join or renew at the Library Check-Out Desk on the first floor. 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.  Rm 154

 19 – The Big Read:  Movie based on the book, “To Kill a Mockingbird”, starring Gregory Peck and directed by Robert Mulligan.  Peck won an Oscar for his brilliant performance as the Southern lawyer who defends a black man accused of rape in this film version of the Pulitzer Prizewinning novel.  The way in which it captures a time, a place and above all, a mood, makes this film a masterpiece.  Lecture and discussion with Alina Patriche, Ph.D.,  Broward College.  12:30 to 3:30 p.m.  Room 154

 24 – Reading Roundtable: Black History Month:  Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.  A young  woman from Nigeria leaves behind her home and her first love to start a new life in America only to find her dreams are not all she expected.  Book discussion.  2:00 to 3:30 p.m.  Rm 226

 26 – Reel to Real:  A classic movie based upon the novel by Pearl S. Buck.  First came marriage, an arranged union    of  peasant farmer Wang Lung and kitchen slave O-Lan.  Then through poverty and wealth, family and betrayal, war and pestilence, came love.   Followed by discussion.  12:00 to 2:00 p.m.  Rm 154
